Job Title: K-12 Art Teacher

Qualifications:
Bachelor of science in education with an emphasis in art
Primary Functions:
To guide students to express themselves creatively in visual terms, utilizing skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the student’s interests and abilities. The art teacher also guides them to develop an aesthetic understanding and appreciation for art history, art in other cultures, and art careers.
General Responsibilities:
- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, design, art history, and three dimensional art to elementary students. Utilize course of instruction that is in alignment with state standards.
- Provide a variety of instructional activities in order to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of each student with varying intellectual and artistic abilities.
- Organize storage areas and control use of art materials, equipment, and tools to minimize time required for distribution and collection during class instruction.
- Work within assigned supply budget.
- Identify pupils’ needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils work with learning and/or behavioral problems.
Specific Duties:
- Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the classroom.
- Promote a positive learning environment by displaying student art work.
- Attend faculty meetings and school-sponsored activities.
- Extended duties as directed by the principal (i.e., lunchroom, bus room, parent pickup, etc.).
- Prepare and update Professional Portfolio.
