Job Title: Substitute School Nurse
Responsible to: District Nurse Coordinator, Building Principal
Qualifications:
- Missouri State Board Certified RN or LPN. Current to practice nursing in the state of Missouri.
- Certified in CPR.
- Must be in good health due to continuous exposure to communicable disease.
- Must be able to make critical, independent, health-related judgments in life-threatening situations.
Primary Function:
The major focus of health services in the school setting is the promotion of health and wellness among students and staff, and the early detection and correction of health problems. The school nurse promotes and protects the health status of students and staff through functions in the areas of health services, health education and maintenance of a healthy school environment.
Specific Duties:
- Hours in assigned building are 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Administer appropriate level of first aid for illness and injury, including CPR, if necessary.
- Provide accurate documentation of health room visits and details of care given in student’s computerized health record.
- Administer daily and emergency medication to students.
- Record all medication administration on student’s M.A.R (Medication Administration Record) located at nurse work station.
- Make parent contacts when appropriate regarding a student’s illness or injury. Determine the need for student to leave school. Dismiss in accordance with district and specific building guidelines.
- Assist faculty with health needs. (ie: vital signs)
- Leave thorough written documentation for building nurse upon her return regarding any student or staff problems.
- Contact the District RN with any questions regarding health concerns, illness or injury of students or staff that warrants “team approach” intervention.
