Athletic Training/Physical Therapy emphasis

Qualifications:
The applicant must hold a Career Education Certification or meet one of the following qualifications:
- Must hold or be eligible for a valid Missouri Vocational Certificate and have a current license in health care. Previous long term care facility experience preferred.
- Verification of a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university and four thousand (4,000) hours of Department-approved, closely related occupational experience obtained within the past ten (10) years; or
- Verification of an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and five thousand (5,000) hours of Department-approved, closely related occupational experience within the past ten (10) years; or
- No degree and verification of six thousand (6,000) hours of Department approved, closely related occupational experience obtained within the past ten (10) years. Applicant must possess and maintain proper Missouri teaching certificate for the area/content to which he or she has been assigned.
Experience – prefer classroom teaching experience and industry experience in the field of sports medicine/athletic training.
Primary Functions:
- Provide quality career and technical education instruction in the area of health science/health occupations.
- Establish and maintain a TSA (technical skills attainment) and IRC (industry recognized skills) needed to be successful in the workplace as directed by DESE.
- Serve as the advisor for Skills USA and provide leadership training and technical contest preparation for students.
- Teaching and/or supervisory skills.
- Develop strong relationships with the Carthage R9 athletic department and the sports medicine community and provide avenues of support and partnerships where applicable.
- Instructs students in the proper use of safety protection which includes eye protection, masks, goggles, gowns and gloves for both the patients and students.
- Explain the interrelationships and the opportunities for careers in health occupations.
- Relate the technical information needed to make judgments in performing athletic training/physical therapy duties in one or more of the health occupations.
- Evaluate each student’s performance, knowledge and skills on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, tools, materials and facilities.
- Develop strategies to recruit and attract students to the program for the long-term success of the program and its stated outcomes to support our local health care community.
General Responsibilities:
- Serve on the advisory committee as an ex-officio member.
- Revision of the course syllabi.
- Responsible for the instruction of students, in both classroom and shop areas as assigned.
- Knowledge of content level.
- Follow district curriculum to meet the needs of the students.
- Plan, design, prepare for and implement a variety of effective teaching techniques in order to successfully meet the educational needs of the students.
- Maintain a positive classroom atmosphere conductive to learning; climate of respect and fairness.
- Assess learning outcomes of students by various methods (testing, observation, portfolios, and other assessments).
- Plan and implement appropriate classroom management strategies.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and community members.
- Utilize technology.
- Meet attendance requirements.
- Engage in ongoing professional growth.
- Keep all appropriate records.
- Attend meetings and assume extra duties assigned by Director.
- Work collaboratively with school staff.
- Demonstrates the proper use of medical equipment and materials.
- Maintain standards set by DESE and comply with all state and federal standards for Perkins and various state funding.
- Collaborate with post-secondary partners.
Specific Duties:
Planning and Organization
- Prepare effective and appropriate lesson plans and learning experiences consistent with district curriculum and state standards.
- Use student performance data to plan instruction.
- Maintain shop and education competencies in areas of instructional responsibilities.
- Work closely with the Director and the cooperating facilities in coordinating committees, keeping them informed of the educational needs and activities of the students in both the classroom and the lab areas, and in a manner in which will objectives will be met.
- Work cooperatively with related facilities providing them with program objectives for internship experience, develop contractual agreements, and provide expectations for both education setting and training site.
- Responsible to help carry out the philosophy and outcome criteria of the program, and to assist in any other areas requested by the director.
- Provide input on annual program budget

- Provide opportunities for students to demonstrate knowledge of content and subject matter.
- Meet student needs through differentiated instruction.
- Use various effective instructional strategies to promote student learning.
- Enable students to connect content to authentic experiences.
Monitoring and Managing Student Learning
- Align assessments with the goals, objectives and instructional strategies of district curriculum guides, state standards and assessments, and when appropriate, IEPs.
- Vary methods for assessing student performance as appropriate.
- Use student performance data to monitor the effectiveness of instruction.
Classroom Environment
- Manage student behavior in a positive and constructive manner.
- Actively engage and keep students on task.
- Utilize instructional time effectively.
- Manage discipline and safety in accordance with site discipline plan, board policy and state statutes.
- Establish and clearly communicate classroom expectations to students and parents/guardians.

- Conducts self at all times as a representative of the school.
- Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- Performance of this position will be evaluated according to board policies and the Carthage R-IX School District adopted model of Performance Based Teacher Evaluation.
